Aaron Plotke is a junior nutritional sciences major at the UConn College of Agriculture, Health, and Natural Resources. He spent eight weeks during the summer of 2014 as an intern with the 4-H FANs IM program in Danbury, mentoring high school students to become 4-H FANs IM teen mentors to third and fourth graders.
He says, “4-H FANs IM gives a holistic view to health, by showing the students how to balance healthy eating with exercise, in lessons on nutrition, fitness, and gardening.”
After graduation, Aaron plans to apply for a didactic internship, to prepare for the Registered Dietitian exam, and then work toward a master’s in public health. His ultimate goal is a position with government or a non-profit organization, focusing on health and nutrition public policy.
As for his time with 4-H FANs IM he says, “I’d like to work with the students again sometime in the future. It was amazing to empower younger children on the benefits of healthy eating and exercise.”
